Avoid IT complexity and start innovating

Human do have the personality to create complexity and have been flourishing because of the creative ability and that desire to make progress while trying to live to tell the tale. The effect of this is that we can not stop improving ourselves and the things around us and this has affected our roles with regards to our responsibilities in business.
Customers and stakeholders needs are expected to be achieved, we create complexity while trying to Innovate. As we all know, it is all about creating meaning experience and when an organization can not adapt to the changes from designing and human centered activities to a more recent involvement in innovation, strategy, it will be challenging to meet their customer's and stakeholders demands.
Innovation is a critical factor while trying to be competitive, and yet most waste almost all their resources maintaining their current IT systems as they do transform their businesses. These IT complexities keeps IT organizations consumed with the status quo instead of embarking on innovative projects.
What are the factors responsible for these complexities that is seen in our organization IT operations? Some of these factors are specified below:
- Reinventing: In most organizations, the need to craft a new way of doing things that are existing is a habit. Because of our creativity, we reinvent not realizing that creativity is different from reinvention.
- Shortsightedness: There is a need to focus on larger opportunities that will generate real value in the organization as an alternative of paying attention to small things.
- Over-enhancement: Trying to be creative by making things look complex than it needs to be for the current situation or circumstances.
- Unnecessary adjustment: The need or desire to leave your footprint, making adjustment without achieving useful result. It is wise to avoid this approach and focus on changes that will produce an outcome that will substantially better.
- Pointlessness: Inability to set a clear target or objective from the onset can lead to complexity
- Perfecting: Trying to make things 100 per cent perfect, when the current solution is good enough!
In reducing the complexity in the organization, there is a need to secure executive support. In today's business, success requires that projects be driven from the top with active executive engagement. In addition, there is a need to take a different approach with regards to infrastructures. It is not just enough to replace existing infrastructure but replace with an open standard, simpler, consolidate, modern infrastructures to meet the business demands.
