Creating a Strong Password
Technology Trends
We all have different accounts from different vendors managing from our email to social network account. Most people do not think their password is essential and do not put a lot of thoughts into creating one. People just create passwords that are short, easy to remember or use the same password for all accounts (the key to the kingdom).
Most of the vulnerability with regards to password hacking is often done using password-cracking software that can test different password until they fine the correct password. This tool allows them to crack weak passwords in a short time. Therefore, if you create a strong password, you have reduced the chances that your personal or financial information will be stolen.
Based on my interaction with customers, friends etc., I discovered many people create passwords based on their hubby, parent names, spouse's name or using simple phrases. These passwords are very easy to hack.
How to create Strong Password
- Do not use personal information to create password. Avoid information such as your name, birthday, or spouse's name because they are publicly available, which makes it easier for someone to guess your password.
- Where applicable, use a password generator. Random passwords are the strongest.
- Avoid writing down your password on papers or books. If you need to write down your passwords, keep them in a secured place, encrypt it or just write down a hint that only you can understand.
- Always include numbers, symbols, and both uppercase and lowercase letters.
- Avoid using the same password for each account.
- Use longer passwords. Avoid using password with less than six characters long.
